Hines Mansion Bed & Breakfast
Built in 1895 by R. Spencer Hines, The Hines Mansion is one of the more famous mansions in Provo, having been designed by Richard Karl August Kletting, the architect of the Utah State Capitol building. Much of the original decor is in place; including wood moldings, brick walls, and stained glass. Many of the nine bedrooms have period furniture, and all are tastefully decorated to provide a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere. A full gourmet breakfast starts the day.
A bottle of sparkling cider is placed on ice in the room of each guest on their first night at the Hines Bed and Breakfast. Every room has its own private bath with jetted tub, two comfortable robes, cable-TV, and a VCR with access to our complementary video library. Many of the rooms have distinctive turn-of-the-century decor. Each room also has a private telephone line and internet access through a high-speed wireless DSL connection.
Cakes, cookies, fruit or other refreshments are available daily. Guests may use our parlor to relax, visit, play a variety of table games. A full hot breakfast is served each morning in our breakfast area.
Penthouse
Perched high atop the mansion, featuring vintage 8-foot oval windows, is our largest room, the Penthouse of the Hines Mansion. From its lofty height, guests have a birds-eye view of Provo and its surrounding mountains. Gateway to this spacious suite is the restored, hand-finished oak stairwell, nostalgic of the 1890's. The two-person jetted tub is within the bay of the three-sided window with its panoramic view. This room boasts a 46-inch screen TV, king-size bed, ceiling fan, private bath and shower, spacious closet, and lounging area.
Library
Our second floor Library, with its secret passage, is reminiscent of a Victorian study. Climbing its spiral staircase will take you to a relaxing bath in your two-person jetted tub under a skylight view of the stars.
Winter Dreams
Retreat to the fantasies of a winter romance in another place and time. Accented in deep, rich tones and warm hand-carved mahogany, Winter Dreams will keep you snug and cozy, and its classic French décor provides a romantic hideaway.
Kitty Hines
Named after our original hostess, Kitty Hines, the serenely classical room in shades of blue and creams welcomes guests to comfortable repose and privacy. This second-floor room is reminiscent of classic turn-of-the-century French decor; it encourages peaceful relaxing in the two-person jetted tub set in a bay window with its magnificent view of the environs of Utah valley.
Seaside Retreat
Fresh as a sea breeze and as colorful as a maritime coastal retreat, this special room will whisk you to dreams of faraway shorelines. Relax and renew your spirit viewing the colorful fish at home in our custom-crafted saltwater aquarium. This second-floor room with ceiling fan and queen-sized canopy bed offers a view of our lawns.
Secret Garden
Like an English countryside, the beautiful flowers, vine-wrapped walls and garden hues of this Secret Garden will please those who stay here. The room boasts a king size four-poster bed, as well as two-person jetted tub, TV and VCR, and cozy robes. This ground floor room is a favorite and will give your stay serenity and comfort.
Whispering Willow
The Whispering Willow is on the first floor and has an inside and a private outside entrance. With its sage and cream colors, you will feel as if you are in the classic south. Rosewood furniture with a queen-sized bed adds to the peace and tranquility of this special room. This room is unique in that it has both a separate shower stall and a two-person jetted tub.
The Lodge
This rustic and romantic suite is set off with a massive lodge-pole pine king size bed and oak entertainment center housing a TV and VCR. Décor is reminiscent of rooms at Historic National Park lodges. Eye-catching western quilts, a handmade bedspread and other frontier relics, along with the two-person jetted tub and shower, are sure to please. This ground floor room boasts both an outside and inside entrance.
Butch Cassidy Stayed Here. This western theme is reminiscent of a story, confirmed by descendents of the early owners of the mansion, that the second owner of the Hines Mansion was Provo's sheriff. The Sheriff was also cousin to the infamous Butch Cassidy, or George LeRoy Parker as he was named by his respectable Mormon parents. It is said that Butch visited his cousin while things "cooled off" for him in other parts of the West. Sometimes Butch would find things too hot for him here in Provo and would check himself into a cell in his cousin's jail until things were better in town. Our Lodge was part of the Parlor in that era, so it may be assumed Butch stayed elsewhere in the Mansion on these family visits.
Victorian Rose
The elegant majesty of the Victorian period will give charm and grace to your stay in the Hines Mansion. Period print wall coverings and lace curtains adorn this beautiful get-away.
