Home > Find a B&B > By City > St. George, Utah
Located in the southwestern part of the state, St. George is the 8th largest city in Utah, and along with several smaller communities make up what is called Utah's Dixie. From as low as 2,000 feet above sea level at the bottom of the Virgin Gorge, to well over 10,000 feet at the peak of Pine Valley Mountain, a visitor will discover some of the most beautiful scenery found anywhere. For an overview of all the area has to offer, any bed and breakfast innkeeper will be a great resource.
Founded in 1861 by Mormon pioneers, the community was known for the cotton, wine grapes and silk harvested for export to northern states. Today, most agriculture has given way to other industries, and numerous commercial, recreational and tourism opportunities. The St. George-Zion National Park area has been named among the best communities for retirees. More than a dozen golf courses with spectacular views surround the city.
Indoor and outdoor theaters provide outstanding productions depicting the heritage and natural beauty of the area. Art museums, historical sites, tours and family fun centers keep visitors busy. St. George is also known for its annual marathon, Huntsman World Senior Games, Rotary Bowl, and famous Dixie Roundup. Ticket and schedule information is available from any B & B innkeeper.
The crown jewel of it all is Zion National Park. Add to that, the state parks, ghost towns, canyons, coves, deserts, streams, golf courses, mineral pools, tennis courts, swimming holes, pioneer building, horse back riding, bicycling, hiking and one will have found a perfect Utah vacation.
