Located in the southwestern part of the state, St. George is the 8th biggest city in Utah, and along with several smaller communities make up what is called Utah's Dixie. The area's position along one of the nation's key north-south routes (I-15) between California and places such as Salt Lake City, and Albuquerque is making the area one of the nation's fastest growing communities. From as low as 2,000 feet above sea level at the bottom of the Virgin Gorge, to well over 10,000 feet at the peak of Pine Valley Mountain, a visitor will discover within a short radius of the towns in the vicinity of St. George, some of the most beautiful scenery found anywhere.

Founded in 1861 by Mormon pioneers, the community was known for the cotton, wine grapes and silk harvested for export to northern states. Today, most agriculture has given way to other industries, and numerous commercial, recreational and tourism opportunities. The St. George-Zion National Park area has been named among the best communities for retirees. More than a dozen golf courses bounded by homes with spectacular views surround the city.

Indoor and outdoor theaters provide outstanding productions depicting the heritage and natural beauty of the area. Art museums, historical sites, tours and family fun centers keep visitors busy. This Utah City is also known for its annual marathon, Huntsman World Senior Games, Rotary Bowl, and famous Dixie Roundup.
