Old La Sal is located in Grand County of southeastern Utah. First settled in 1877, it was abandoned in 1930 when the present townsite of La Sal was firmly established.
It is nestled in the La Sal Mountain range, a part of the Manti-La Sal National Forest. This area exhibits three unique ecosystems – alpine, desert, and red-rock canyons. The La Sal Loop offers a beautiful scenic drive through this mountain range. The sights range from panoramic views of Castle Valley to the breathtaking Arches National Park, and from the snow covered rocky peaks of the La Sals to the mountain ranges surrounding Canyonlands National Park. Visiting Old La Sal allows one to be close to activities of the area while avoiding the crowds of nearby Moab.
