Huntsville is a small scenic town in Weber County of Utah. 10 miles east of Ogden in the Ogden Valley, it is one of three small communities located there. The first settlement of seven crude log houses with dirt roofs was established in 1860 by a hillside spring and by a grove of cottonwood trees near. The first crops of oats, barley, and hay were planted in the spring of 1861, and a fine harvest followed. While farming and dairying were the main occupations in years past, today the majority of the populace works outside of town in Ogden.

Ogden Valley is in the heart of a recreational area with Pineview Reservoir and three mountain resorts in close proximity. The nearby Snowbasin, Wolf Mountain, and Powder Mountain Resorts surround the valley. These Utah ski resorts provide a diverse variety of atmospheres and skiing conditions. Pineview Reservoir provides beautiful scenery and a wealth of activities. The reservoir is open to camping, boating, swimming, fishing and picnicking. It is stocked with fish for the avid fisher and is surrounded with trails though the Wasatch-Cache National Forest for hiking, biking, backpacking and camping.

Of note is the fact that Huntsville had the first public school in Utah. And many visitors believe that the must-see site in Huntsville is Utah’s oldest bar – in business since 1879 – The Shooting Star Saloon.
